A few weeks ago, I came across a some news reports that Prince Charles was trying to learn Arabic. Always up for a challenge, I decided I’d offer my services to His Royal Highness. I got out my finest writing pad (I had bought letter-writing paper over 10 years ago, thinking I’d buck the new email fad and write letters to people instead…), and hand wrote the below letter to the Heir of the British Throne, enclosing Part A of my Basic Arabic Grammar course, DVD and all. I was still debating who should play me in the follow up to The King’s Speech when I got a response from The Office of TRH The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, passing on His Royal Highness’s gratitude for my letter and for the offer, but politely turning it down nonetheless. I can’t say I wasn’t a little disappointed, but it really was very nice of them to respond at all, and maybe after he gets a chance to watch the DVD, he’ll change his mind. My offer stands, Your Highness!
I’m writing again to ask permission to publish the response I got on my blog – watch this space! My own letter is below:
